Hi! My name is Paula, and I am British-Chilean. I have a PGCE from which I graduated with a 1st, over 9 years of experience teaching languages, and have been an official examiner for A Levels and GCSEs. When teaching students that are preparing for their exams, I adopt an exam-focused approach, dedicating time to each language skill—listening, speaking, reading, and writing—individually. I incorporate past papers into lessons to build confidence and develop effective exam strategies. I also teach students in primary, as well as adults wishing to start or continue learning a language. For younger learners, my approach is interactive, utilising videos, songs, and games to make learning engaging. For adult learners, depending on your targets, our focus can be anywhere from conversation to career-oriented language, and we would use a variety of media too. I tailor my lessons to each student’s goals and unique learning style, and I believe in making studying fun and motivating. This way, a student can build confidence, improve learning effectiveness, and maximise their potential. My students consistently achieve excellent progress and have fun during our lessons. In our first session, I will assess your current level, determine key targets, and create a tailored program designed to help you achieve your goals.

Over the past six years, I have worked as both a private tutor and a schoolteacher, teaching predominantly English and Spanish to students of all ages and abilities both in person and online. My passion for languages began at the age of three, when I emigrated from my native Bulgaria to England, where I promptly learnt English despite having no previous knowledge of the language. Later, I briefly dabbled in French, which I would go on to study in secondary school. It was there that I began studying Spanish, taking to it immediately. Subsequently, I studied Spanish, along with English Literature, at GCSE, achieving A* and A respectively, and later at A-Level, achieving B and A* respectively. Shortly thereafter, I advanced my studies to a higher level at the University of Reading, graduating with a BA (Hons) degree in both subjects in 2019. Knowing from personal experience how challenging learning a language can be (especially given that English grammar is seldom taught in English schools), I aim to facilitate the process for my students by tailoring my tuition to their individual needs; sending notes consistently throughout the lesson; ensuring they are confident in their new-found knowledge before progressing; and offering a wide variety of resources to aid their learning. While many are initially reluctant to try online tuition, preferring the traditional face-to-face method, after just one session, the vast majority come to find that it is the more convenient option, as it is faster and more time- and cost-effective. Personable, passionate and productive, my mission is to make learning both easy and enjoyable.

I am a graduate of MML (French and Spanish) from The University of Cambridge with a master's in Modern Languages from the University of Oxford. I studied at the École Normale Supérieure in Paris on my year abroad as an undergraduate student and I am greatly fascinated by every aspect of languages. I have been studying French for over fourteen years and Spanish for more than seven years. I have benefited greatly from the world-class education I have received at Cambridge, the ENS and Oxford. I have been tutoring for over two years for a number of different organisations. I have taught over 1000 hours of private 1-1 lessons, receiving over 70 five-star reviews. I have taught students of various ages and abilities. I have taught KS3 (French and Spanish), GCSE (French and Spanish), Edexcel iGCSE (French and Spanish) Cambridge iGCSE (French and Spanish), A level (French and Spanish), University level (French). I have helped to prepare students for scholarship exams at Winchester College and Eton College. I have also taught French to a student, who was preparing to start his studies at Harrow School. I have helped a student at The London School of Economics prepare for a French oral exam and I have helped a student reading Comparative Literature at University College London. I have helped a number of students prepare for MML interviews at Oxford (French) and Cambridge (French and Spanish). I have taught adults also, including a Cambridge architecture graduate who was looking to improve his French for a project in Switzerland and a Cambridge law graduate, who was preparing for an internship in Brussels. I have taught French to adults for professional purposes also, such as teaching French to a student working in the field of international renewable energy. I have mostly taught 1:1 lessons but I was invited to teach some group courses by Tutorful and so I have experience teaching groups also. Above all, I am here to help the student. Therefore, I will always look to ask students what they hope to gain from my sessions. This will help me to identify areas to target and also encourage my students to be self-reflective. Constant evaluation is an important part of the learning process. I will be very happy to set and mark homework. I can suggest various ways that students can develop their language skills between lessons. This is critical because language-learning does require personal diligence and is a long yet very enjoyable process. I will look to remind students of things we have covered in previous sessions so that we can both follow their progression and so that they can better retain what they have learnt. I have excellent resources that I use to teach my students. I have adopted a meticulous approach to language study as I have sought to improve in all areas. It is very important not to neglect any area when studying a foreign language! Grammar forms the bedrock of effective communication, as does having a good vocabulary. Learning to express oneself naturally in a foreign language and avoiding anglicisms is always extremely important. I will encourage my students to work on their pronunciation so that they can express themselves more naturally in the language. I am very interested in languages and I am currently learning German and Italian. I also really like sport. I grew up playing competitive football and I play tennis. I really enjoy travelling and I have an long-standing interest in the natural world. I have an enhanced DBS check certificate.

Hi, thank you for landing on my profile. I am a native Italian and Chinese tutor, and I have been teaching Italian and Chinese (as well as English, French and Spanish) for many years, both in person and online. I am passionate about empowering my students and designing classes that allow them to learn quickly whilst having fun. With the right method, anyone can learn a language, and I am here to help you find out what works best for you. Of course, if you have a textbook or a specific curriculum, we can follow that. I personally love learning languages because they open so many doors and help people connect in real life. I am teaching myself German, Russian, Catalan and next year I will start Japanese. I currently live between London, Barcelona and Milan, so online classes are easier to arrange. About me, I spent 25 years between Europe and China and I am currently pursuing a PhD in Sustainable Tourism, working with the government. I also work as a tour director organising and leading tours across Europe (and other parts of the world) for schools and private groups. I am a qualified yoga/qi gong/ meditation teacher, and some of my hobbies are scuba diving, tango, cooking and playing music (mostly violin and piano).

I am currently Head of Languages at at an all through school, and this opportunity has equipped me with the knowledge, skills and experience to be successful in this role and bringing my expertise in the developing of an engaging and exciting MFL curriculum. As a hard-working teacher who loves languages, since the beginning of my teaching career, I have always strive to encourage and combine an enjoyment for learning and communicating in a foreign language, as well as an interest in the Wider world to become a knowledgeable global citizen. I believe that my energy and positive attitude towards my own subject and others, coupled with a desire to provide students with the opportunity to fulfil and exceed their potential, makes me a valuable leader to the Modern Foreign Languages department and the school as a whole. During my time as a Head of Department, I have been responsible for redesigning and developing the SOL in KS3 and KS4, in order to meet the demands of the new GCSE for Spanish and French. I have focused on promoting an inclusive curriculum, enabling all students to make genuine progress with the aim of increasing accessibility to the new GCSE course. I have also contributed with lesson planning, adapting assessments to incorporate features of the new GCSE since year 7, as well as implementing and monitoring the marking and homework policy in the department to ensure that all students make adequate progress giving enough opportunities to revisit important skills as well as reflecting in their own learning. I have also supported other members of the team in becoming confident to differentiate lessons for the less and most able. I am always looking for ways of enhancing students’ language and cultural learning and as such, I have established great links with the KS2 languages provision in my current school as well as overseeing the SOL offered. At Wren I would bring the best of those experiences to implement a five-year GCSE course that meets the high demands of the reformed examination by focusing on the relevant skills from the beginning. This approach will also guarantee pupils to be ready for A level. I have lead the introduction of Mandarin at KS2 and KS3 as enrichment and as additional language at KS3. I have also organised frequent visits to Tapas restaurants, Cambridge University, and have supported school trips to France as well other important extra curriculum visits. I have organised letter exchange with an International school in Spain and America, which was after used for the International School Award, and have used Skype conversations with a school in Spain to motivate Year 11 students to consider the subject at A-Level. Moreover, I have organised several Spelling Bees. I always seek out challenges and I am excited by the opportunity to inspire students with significant barriers to learning to overcome their difficulties and to share my passion for languages. Since I started my teaching career in 2009, I have always tried my best to help students to achieve their full potential. In my first two years of teaching I taught Spanish to all year groups (Year 7-13) and French to KS3, achieving outstanding results 98% (A*/C) GCSE (low ability group) 98% (AS) and 80% (A2). As a Second in Department and Lead in languages at a separate school, my commitment to raise attainment and my enthusiasm for teaching languages led to an increase in the number of students studying Spanish at GCSE from 45 the first year to 135 students the following year from different abilities. Last year at SMSJ, 65% of the Spanish students achieved 9-4 grades with only one-hour lesson in year 8 and year 9 at KS3 in mixed ability classes. This year, I have 55 students from high, middle and low abilities classes and am on track to achieve their FFT20 in Spanish due to the action plan we are putting in place to accelerate learning and improve attainment. Next year, 95% of the students are taking Spanish and French as one of their GCSE options. I am responsible for analysing data related to our results in order to tailor interventions for the students falling short of their target grades. I also have used this information to make improvements within my department’s teaching and learning. I believe that one of the key ways to address this issue is the involvement of parents in their child’s education. I have contributed to developing close links with parents, letting them know through letters and constant communication how they can support their children at home. As a Department, we base our interventions on end of term data. We identify underachieving students and put in place interventions in class or after school, in order to personalise their learning and support their needs, and at the same time, make important decisions on how to maximize Human Resources and expertise within the department to make faster and more sustainable progress. Data is used to support my judgements about students’ progress, but data is only informative if it is accurate. To support all members of staff I organised standardisation and moderation sessions. This has been successful in setting standards across the Department as well as allowing other members of the team to share good assessment practice.

I am an enthusiastic secondary school Spanish and French teacher with high aspirations for my students, supporting them to challenge themselves and achieve. I am currently studying for my Masters in Education, for which I am researching the use of mobile phones and technology to teach grammar in MFL. In my first year as an A Level teacher I received 100% A-A* grades in my class. Last year, 88% of my Higher Spanish GCSE students received a grade 6 or above. My teaching involves creating and delivering engaging and exciting lessons which motivate students. I enjoy incorporating technology into my classes and find the use of culture, such as music, is key to teaching languages. Recent examples of exciting lessons I have taught include a writing task on students’ phones using emojis and challenging Sixth Form students to act as a ‘government’ and come up with their own racism laws and policies, considering logistics and money, totally in target language, for one lesson.

Hi! My name is Maria, originally from Argentina where I pursued my BSc and MSc degrees in Biology at University of Buenos Aires (UBA). I later moved to London after being awarded a Grand Challenges studentship to complete my PhD studies in Biomedicine/Neuroscience at University College of London (UCL). I have been a tutor and teacher for over 15 years, specialising in A-level Biology and Chemistry, I have worked for Tutor House for over ten years, running a number of courses for them. I'll be happy to help students in the following subjects: - Maths and Physics Key Stage (KS 2, 3 & 4) and GCSE - Biology, Chemistry and Life Science; Key Stage (KS 2, 3 & 4), GCSE, A-Level & Degree. - Biochemistry, Molecular and Cell Biology, Inorganic and Organic Chemistry, Genetics, and related subjects: Degree levels. I have vast experience in private one to one lessons, group lessons and online sessions. I’ve been teaching for more than 14 years in universities and schools and as a private tutor, both in Argentina and UK. I always try to build a positive environment where the student can feel motivated to study and eager to learn. As a private tutor, I tend to go through the syllabus detecting areas of struggle and topics that need a better foundation, and generating a space where tutees can express all their doubts and questions. My aim is to provide the student with tools to build stronger practice and study techniques which can later be used in other courses and throughout their careers.
