How long does it take to learn German?

Becoming completely fluent in German takes years and lots of practice. Learning any new language requires a great deal of patience, dedication and regular practice or lessons. If you want to gain a basic proficiency in German, you can learn a decent amount in a year with regular lessons.

Is German hard to learn?

German is seen as quite a tough language as there are a lot of tenses to learn and the sentence structure is quite different to other modern languages. However, once you've got to grips with the tenses and got your 'der, die, das, den and dem' the right way round, German is actually a very straightforward language. In fact, the rules are logical and make a lot of sense!
