At present in my early 50s. I began teaching, in a London tutorial college, straight after coming down from Oxford. A few years after that, I interrupted my teaching career to return to university to pursue doctoral research, but I continued to see a small number of private students throughout my time as a post-graduate student. Accordingly, I have somewhere in the region of thirty years’ experience of helping students to realise their potential and, quite often, to exceed their expectations of themselves. My original specialisms were English Language and Literature, and these remain subjects I enjoy teaching immensely, but I have equal experience by now in History of Art, Philosophy, Film Studies, and Religious Studies, each of which I have taught to A level students and undergraduates. I also specialise in Pre-U English. The following is a quotation from the reference supplied by the school from which I resigned last year, after twenty years as Head of English and de facto Head of Humanities, in order to focus on private tuition: ‘Bill’s main virtues as a teacher […] are his infectious enthusiasm for his subjects, his immense knowledge and erudition, his intimate familiarity with past papers and assessment criteria, his commitment to his pupils, his willingness to make supererogatory efforts on their behalf, his provision of extensive and meticulous course notes, and his generosity with his time.’

I am a very approachable and professional Teacher currently working within a tutoring establishments across the UK delivering English, Drama and Science lessons. I have experience working as a leading English Tutor role, of which I provide my personally prepared lesson plans and materials for students and others to use. In addition, I hold a strong array of knowledge within the education and drama industry, of which in particular are: professional teaching standards and student relation building skills, especially but not limited to: providing a professional, entertaining and educational learning environment for students in every lesson. Holding previous work experience within teaching positions has provided me with a useful understanding of all that is expected from an education authority figure whilst granting me the knowledge and efficiency to successfully meet these requirements. I am currently seeking a full-time, permanent job related to my skills background, but not necessarily limited to this as I am always looking to increase my experience in education. I am on the DBS update service and I have SEN experience as well.

Hi there, I have a colourful teaching background which began on the tropical east coast of paradise (Australia). My first teaching experiences were shared between the fitness and tourism industries where I was a personal trainer, aerobics instructor, weightlifting coach, marine naturalist and Japanese tour guide on the Great Barrier Reef. Over the years I continued to expand on my teaching skills and became a dive instructor, underwater photographer and CrossFit athlete. During these years speaking Japanese, teaching people how to dive and developing a motivational mindset as an athlete, I was studying to become a school teacher at university and tutoring advanced english. I am now a qualified primary school teacher, high school english teacher, TEFL (teaching, english as a foreign language) teacher, writer and poet living in London. My teaching philosophies are very constructivist. My students are encouraged and guided towards being active meaning makers of their learning and environments. I am also a pragmatist and humanist as I align my teaching practice with practicality, care and synergy. This is quite the opposite of the standard education system which is rooted in behaviourism (amputation of personal thoughts, feelings and emotions with a strong stance on positive and negative reinforcement). Hence, why I am choosing to take my teaching outside of the classroom. However, I understand that there is a place for passing tests and knowing certain curriculums and so I will teach you how to understand the curriculums and success criterion you may be following. If you work with me you can expect to be placed in the centre of very personalised learning and we will build great rapport. My personal goals are to become proficient in Japanese and become a Japanese teacher and translator and to write and publish a novel or ten in English (I love language). I am available to tutor English which aligns with the school curriculum and beyond for all ages and as a TEFL tutor for anyone who desires to learn how to speak English. If you want to write for creative purposes I am also here to help you. Let's write poems and stories together! I am highly flexible and have a sharp eye for identifying students' unique needs. I can work effectively and happily with ages 5 - adult. I am a big believer in celebrating both similarities and differences in people and learning styles - I will always make it work for you. I look forward to meeting you. Selina

Hello! Thank you for looking at my profile. I am a theatre director and writer. I have experienced the flaws in the education system and appreciate the value of being well-taught. Without my English teacher's inspiration, I would never have even considered applying to Cambridge. I would love to help your child in their studies in whatever way they need. My tutee success includes: - Offered a scholarship due to outstanding results in 11+ exams - Top set places in secondary school as a result of excellent SATs results - Increase of 3 points in GCSE English from a 5 to an 8 in both Language and Literature - All pupils have improved in confidence and self-expression I am a diligent and enthusiastic tutor who can ably cater my teaching style to every individual, whilst maintaining a consistent structure in their learning to help them make progress. I am kind, encouraging and a good listener. I enjoy teaching because I want to help everyone realise their full potential.

I am an extremely experienced and fully qualified Secondary English Teacher. I have worked in the OFSTED graded outstanding Girls Grammar School close to my home, Westcliff High School for Girls, Essex, the Academy Grammar School, Greensward Academy, Hockley and a Maintained Secondary School, The Fitzwimarc School in Rayleigh, Essex. My positions have included Teacher of English, Head of Faculty, Head of Department English & Media Studies. I am currently tutoring for GCSE English Language and English Literature. I am a qualified examiner for AQA and I am currently teaching English Literature and Language for all the main exam boards, AQAm Edexcel, WJC. My pupils this year achieved outstanding results! I am so proud of them all! Pupils predicted a Level 4 in April by their schools went onto achieve Level 8 in the space of 2 months! Anything is possible! My qualifications are a BA (hons) Humanities, Dip HE Communication Studies, MA Ed., and Secondary Post Graduate Certificate Masters Level. I believe the fundamental and crucially important role I can play in teaching my pupils is the ability for them to feel confident in their own abilities! Learning is about finding out, experimenting and trying new ways, it's about enjoyment and ‘light-bulb’moments. My pupils believe they can achieve and they will, to raise the bar from self-doubt to belief for some pupils removes the barriers to learning that they may have faced for many years. I am confident that one to one tutoring is a very necessary part of learning and I tutor many of my grammar school pupils to ensure they gain the best possible grades they are capable of achieving. Some of my pupils have been really worried that they cannot pass their English examinations at all, or "don't understand the text" , a common complaint, but with my support have been able to achieve more than they thought possible. With time, patience and care pupils have mastered the skills to succeed!

I am a MSc Pharmacology graduate who has studied Biology from a primary to a higher tertiary level. I have tutored many students and friends in person, including those who are cramming for an exam. My methods of teaching include practical and real-world examples, to ensure maximum retention of information. I focus on the important parts of each topics and give additional examples that students need to boost their exam marks. As most parents and students may already be paying large amounts for their biology education, I believe that they should not need to pay a high rate for extra tutoring. Sometimes students simply require repetition or a different teaching style in order to learn a subject. In addition to the lessons I give, I will also provide supplementary reading and homework should students request it. I am also available via email for students with last minute questions before an exam/test Please note I only offer online tutoring, as I believe this is the most efficient way to offer multiple lessons in a week to each student.

Hi everyone, I'm Ian, a fully qualified (PGCE with QTS) English and Media teacher with 15+ years of consistently 'outstanding' teaching in a variety of positions and workplaces around the world. My specialist skillset not only focuses on mainstream exam preparation work (be that A-Level, GCSE, or SATs) but also in Special Education Needs. I have extensive experience helping those with additional needs succeed in gaining mainstream qualifications. My methods often involve highlighting the options that can be afforded through non-traditional, more engaging online environments but are equally at home with established practises as well. I specialise in GCSEs and entrance exams for English related subjects as well as Film and Media from GCSE to degree. I also offer English as an Second or Other Language (ESOL) for learners aged between 3 and adult. I have a background in education technology and have been part of teams devising and delivering content across the curriculum that helps learners achieve their potential in non-traditional settings. I am currently working on a PhD at the University of Leeds in videogames, neuroscience, and learning and am continually feeding the findings from this into my teaching provision. I genuinely care about offering opportunity to all my learners and take great pride in being able to help students of all ages develop their confidence and succeed in their ambitions. If you or one of you family require help with a subject or a style of learning, feel free to get in touch. Do please message prior to booking a trial session; it's helpful to know what you're looking for and how you like to learn before we look to speak further. Thanks!

I attained a B.A. Hons Degree in English Literature and Language (2:1) from the modern Humanities-focused, Newman University in Birmingham (established in 2013). As a result, I excelled in my degree and have learned from the best. This has instilled within me the need and passion to continue my learning in everything English Literature and everything English Language, which I also intend to instil within my students. I have a lot of experience, from working with little primary school toddlers in France, to working closely tutoring a group of University students last year. This year I have mainly been working with A Level students though who I teach varies - I like variety. My aim to guide my students into achieving the high grades is unwavering and my enjoyment of the subject tends to be infectious. Furthermore, I have SEN experience with a Higher Distinction qualification in Advanced Special Educational Needs. I am also currently studying TESOL. I have experience in News Journalism and writing in various forms from poetry to Science Fiction. I am completely up to date with the new specifications, across all the exam boards, have created many resources for them and have inspired confidence in my students due to my in depth knowledge of them. I believe that a positive mind renders positive results so I will always be the student's mentor, coach and personal cheerleader.

I was born and educated in England. I have resided in Canterbury, Leeds, Oxford, London, Shrewsbury, Ludlow and Oswestry. I gained five 'A Levels' (AAABC) at Notre Dame 6th Form College (Leeds) before attending Oxford University where I obtained Degrees in Philosophy and French. I proceeded to do Postgraduate studies in London where I was semi-resident at the British Library (1993-1998). I have been a widely published author since 1999, being the author of dozens of essays and monographs in Philosophy, Comparative Literature, Poetry and Psychology. I am co-author of the self-help book 'Reading in No Time' and author of the forthcoming publication 'French in No Time' (2020). He is a member of MENSA, the BAJ (British Assoc. of Journalists) and A3M (Academy of the 3rd Millennium). I am currently editor of the 'Nobel Prize Collection' for Living Time Books. I have taught pupils from KS1 to Postgraduate Level in the UK and abroad. I undertake an equal amount of group-teaching (lecturing/seminars/classroom) and individual tutoring (mentoring/coaching/private tutorials). I have taught in Switzerland (Geneva, Basel), France (Paris), Germany (Berlin, Munich), Italy (Milan) Poland (Krakow, Warsaw) and Slovakia (Bratislava). I am a native English speaker and also a fluent speaker of French and German. I am highly experienced in teaching children and adults with special educational needs - including Autistic Spectrum Disorders (Autism, Aspergers, Pathological Demand Avoidance), ADHD, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia and other developmental conditions. I am quoted as saying: "Everyone can learn - it doesn't matter how differently we do so!" I specialize in GCSEs, A Levels, Entrance Exams and assistance with Dissertations, Essays, Theses & Coursework. I have explained my approach to teaching in the following way: "With every person that I teach, whether they are before me as an individual or as part of a group, first of all I take time to observe the way in which they learn - their own particular mode of processing information. Then, once I have understood their learning processes - be they visual, verbal, concrete, mathematical, or a combination of these - I customize my own teaching approach to that student's optimum mode of intake. This usually goes a large way toward maximizing their learning experience. What I find is of vital importance in the learning journey - and which is largely responsible for making it successful - is identifying with crystal clarity the exact goals which are to be attained. I make sure that my students do not lose sight of their goal and I make sure that their 'will-to-achieve' stays at a top level throughout the educational process. Without a goal, motivation falters".

I have taught Latin, Ancient Greek, classical studies and English at GCSE, A-level and university level for twenty-five years. I’ve taught beginners up to Common Entrance at prep schools in Surrey and London for fourteen years, and SAT exams for US universities. My students, as well as gaining scholarships to top schools, have gone to Cambridge, Oxford, Bryn Mawr, and top universities. I’m experienced in online tuition (Skype/Facetime/ WhatsApp). I enjoy sharing my love of language, grammar, literature, history, mythology and philosophy. I hope to find quirky ways to give insights into the ancient world and its impact on the present. I particularly love helping students overcome blocks and difficulties to rediscover the joys of language and and the magic of ancient cultures. I have taught English as a Foreign Language in Brazil, Italy and the UK, from beginners to proficiency level, so have a particular awareness of difficulties with second language learning. I teach Creative Writing at University of Portsmouth, and I’ve given workshops in libraries, universities, schools, prisons and theatres. I have also translated ancient and mediaeval texts for academic, legal and medical purposes.

I have over 10 years tutoring experience in Philosophy, English, Russian, Art History, Chess, CAD software and Art. I am a fluent Russian speaker and would be happy to guide Russian parents through the English education system and offer advice on their chosen schools/universities. It can sometimes feel overwhelming when there are so many hurdles to climb, but I can help you take some of that pressure off and help your child succeed in his or her chosen path! My approach is enthusiastic and directed at identifying areas of improvement to achieve higher exam scores and success in interview preparation. I know how hard it can be applying to top schools and universities, and I am happy to guide you through the process and build your confidence and exam technique to achieve the grades you need to progress to your chosen school. I have a degree in Philosophy from University College London and am currently studying for a Masters at Royal College of Art. I studied at St Paul's Girls' School and am available for preparing students for entrance exams and with GCSE and A-Level prep.
