At present in my early 50s. I began teaching, in a London tutorial college, straight after coming down from Oxford. A few years after that, I interrupted my teaching career to return to university to pursue doctoral research, but I continued to see a small number of private students throughout my time as a post-graduate student. Accordingly, I have somewhere in the region of thirty years’ experience of helping students to realise their potential and, quite often, to exceed their expectations of themselves. My original specialisms were English Language and Literature, and these remain subjects I enjoy teaching immensely, but I have equal experience by now in History of Art, Philosophy, Film Studies, and Religious Studies, each of which I have taught to A level students and undergraduates. I also specialise in Pre-U English. The following is a quotation from the reference supplied by the school from which I resigned last year, after twenty years as Head of English and de facto Head of Humanities, in order to focus on private tuition: ‘Bill’s main virtues as a teacher […] are his infectious enthusiasm for his subjects, his immense knowledge and erudition, his intimate familiarity with past papers and assessment criteria, his commitment to his pupils, his willingness to make supererogatory efforts on their behalf, his provision of extensive and meticulous course notes, and his generosity with his time.’

Currently, I am a Ph.D student in creative writing living in London. I volunteer at primary and secondary schools as a tutor, helping students who are struggling with English Literature/Language. I am a published writer/poet and also run a successful small publishing press, focusing on writing in the experimental calibre. My experience tutoring began working with a fifteen year old girl a 2 years ago who was struggling with social anxiety and panic disorder. She was unable to go to school and I stepped in to help her pass her GCSEs. The whole experience shaped how I could help influence the student in an engaging and sensitive way, and inspire them to enjoy developing their knowledge. Also, as an experienced editor, it is in my nature to help the individual try and find their best way to express themselves in both an academic and creative manner. I specialise in the following: - Ages 10 - 18 ENGLISH LITERATURE: - Poetry - Shakespeare - The novel - Fiction and Drama - Literal and inferential comprehension - Critical reading - Evaluation of a writer’s choice of vocabulary, grammatical and structures features. - Comparing and contrasting texts - Revision/exam preparation and coursework/dissertation help ENGLISH LANGUAGE: - Critical reading and comprehension - Summary and synthesis - Evaluation of a writer’s choice of vocabulary, form, grammatical and structural features. - Comparing and Contrasting texts - Producing clear and coherent text - Writing for impact and purpose (selecting, organising and emphasising facts, ideas and key points; citing evidence and quotation effectively and pertinently to support views; creating emotional impact; using language creatively, imaginatively and persuasively, including rhetorical devices. - Creative Writing (in the form of "workshopping" and experimentation fo devices and ideas.) (If necessary, I have the experience to help students who suffer from anxiety disorder and issues surrounding self-confidence. Providing a tutoring experience that is aligned with the students personal needs and motivations) Please feel free to message me if you have any queries.

I was born and educated in England. I have resided in Canterbury, Leeds, Oxford, London, Shrewsbury, Ludlow and Oswestry. I gained five 'A Levels' (AAABC) at Notre Dame 6th Form College (Leeds) before attending Oxford University where I obtained Degrees in Philosophy and French. I proceeded to do Postgraduate studies in London where I was semi-resident at the British Library (1993-1998). I have been a widely published author since 1999, being the author of dozens of essays and monographs in Philosophy, Comparative Literature, Poetry and Psychology. I am co-author of the self-help book 'Reading in No Time' and author of the forthcoming publication 'French in No Time' (2020). He is a member of MENSA, the BAJ (British Assoc. of Journalists) and A3M (Academy of the 3rd Millennium). I am currently editor of the 'Nobel Prize Collection' for Living Time Books. I have taught pupils from KS1 to Postgraduate Level in the UK and abroad. I undertake an equal amount of group-teaching (lecturing/seminars/classroom) and individual tutoring (mentoring/coaching/private tutorials). I have taught in Switzerland (Geneva, Basel), France (Paris), Germany (Berlin, Munich), Italy (Milan) Poland (Krakow, Warsaw) and Slovakia (Bratislava). I am a native English speaker and also a fluent speaker of French and German. I am highly experienced in teaching children and adults with special educational needs - including Autistic Spectrum Disorders (Autism, Aspergers, Pathological Demand Avoidance), ADHD, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia and other developmental conditions. I am quoted as saying: "Everyone can learn - it doesn't matter how differently we do so!" I specialize in GCSEs, A Levels, Entrance Exams and assistance with Dissertations, Essays, Theses & Coursework. I have explained my approach to teaching in the following way: "With every person that I teach, whether they are before me as an individual or as part of a group, first of all I take time to observe the way in which they learn - their own particular mode of processing information. Then, once I have understood their learning processes - be they visual, verbal, concrete, mathematical, or a combination of these - I customize my own teaching approach to that student's optimum mode of intake. This usually goes a large way toward maximizing their learning experience. What I find is of vital importance in the learning journey - and which is largely responsible for making it successful - is identifying with crystal clarity the exact goals which are to be attained. I make sure that my students do not lose sight of their goal and I make sure that their 'will-to-achieve' stays at a top level throughout the educational process. Without a goal, motivation falters".

Hi, thank you for landing on my profile. I am a native Italian and Chinese tutor, and I have been teaching languages (including English, French and Spanish) for 10 years, in person and online. I am passionate about empowering my students and designing classes that allow them to learn quickly whilst having fun. With the right method, anyone can learn a language, and I am here to help you find out what works best for you. Of course, if you have a textbook or a specific curriculum, we can follow that. I personally love learning languages because they open so many doors and help people connect in real life. I am teaching myself German, Russian, Catalan and next year I will start Japanese. About me, I spent 25 years between Europe and China and I am currently a PhD researcher in Travel&Tourism. I also work as a tour director organising and leading educational tours for schools and private groups.

I graduated with a First in English from Trinity College, Cambridge. I am able to tutor both in person and online. I have tutored over 300 hours in the past three years, at all levels from 7+ to A-Level, and in exam boards from AQA and the other main GCSE-A-Level boards to ISEB to the UKISET for international students. I have taught both English and international students, and so am familiar with the varieties of difficulty that students can encounter and a variety of approaches for addressing them. I enjoy re-examining the elementals of the subject through tutoring. I aim to strike a balance between engaging, personal commitment to making the student see and realise a passion for reading and writing, alongside the necessity of navigating exam strictures and requirements - without making them seem restrictive or off-putting. I very much have enjoyed my experiences with small-group, Cambridge "supervision"-style teaching to students on various theatre tours that I have done during my time at Cambridge and this led me into thinking that similar, informal one-on-one teaching would be similarly rewarding. My students have all registered often substantial improvements, and no student of mine for 7-13+ has ever failed to get into a school of their choice, while no GCSE/A-Level student has failed to at least meet their desired grades. One student gaining top marks across the board after struggling with her confidence before our lessons. I continue to be asked back by different families if they feel they need a boost. I'm happy to provide references from individual students and parents as requested.

I have excellent subject knowledge, having achieved my degree and masters degree from the University of Leeds. I’m also currently studying for a PhD at the University of Huddersfield, so I know what it is like to be a learner myself! I have 15 years teaching experience and a proven track record of helping students of all abilities achieve results above and beyond expectations. I’ve loved every minute of my teaching career and now want to dedicate more time to one to one tuition. I strongly believe that the personal and detailed level of support you can get in one to one tutoring can really make a difference to academic success. I have much experience teaching GCSE English and I have most recently specialised in the sixth form sector with 12 years’ experience teaching A Level English Language, A Level English Literature and A Level English Combined. My students, of varying ability levels, have consistently achieved results well above target and national averages year on year. I strongly believe in an approach to tutoring that is tailored to the individual to help them achieve the best possible outcomes.I believe in open and shared learning goals, with clear success criteria, where mistakes are welcomed and lots of feedback given. I aim to give lessons which provide opportunities for creativity, challenge, clear structure and most of all empathetic support. I carefully consider how a student learns best and use this to guide my teaching methods, forms of assessment and teaching materials.

English, Creative Writing, Verbal Reasoning, Philosophy School/Uni Admissions I am a full time private tutor with 9 years’ experience in teaching English to all school levels from 7 plus to 16 plus (examination and interview preparation for the top schools in the London area - e.g. City, Tiffin, Latymer, Merchant Taylors’), GCSE and A-Level (AQA, WJEC Eduqas, Edexcel, Cambridge, etc.), as well as preparing students for English language tests, including IELTS, TOEFL, PTE Academic or Cambridge English Qualifications. Additionally, I tutor philosophy to A-Level and undergraduate students and assist undergraduate literature students with literary theory, academic writing, and research. My priority is to make my lessons both fun and informative as it may be quite challenging to make progress without pleasure in learning. The lessons take place in a happy atmosphere where students feel the comfort to communicate and express their opinions. Furthermore, I encourage students to explore ideas and understand concepts by probing student thinking rather than rote learning or bland lecturing. I allow students to elaborate on topics while I fill in the gaps where necessary by picking up on their ideas and introducing new perspectives. The lessons intertwine and enhance critical thinking and writing skills predominantly which are crucial to achieving success whether tuition is in preparation for secondary school pre-tests or undergraduate level assignments. Under recent circumstances, I have been mostly tutoring online and have been using a variety of online platforms to deliver effective virtual lessons. I now have sufficient experience with all the standard video applications, such as Bramble, Skype, Vedamo, Zoom, etc. I tutor every day of the week and all times of the day. I would be happy to adapt my schedule to meet your availability. ***************************************************************************** My background: I hold a BA in English Language and Literature from Near East University and studied for MA Comparative Literature at King’s College London. In the last two years of my bachelor’s degree, I focused on aestheticism and forms of imprisonment in Oscar Wilde, stream of consciousness narratives in modern literature (e.g. Virginia Woolf and Oguz Atay), and neo-noir and black comedy crime cinema from the mid-1950s to the late 1990s, whereas during the MA course, my research revolved around the intersection of myth and orality in African and Caribbean literatures, Adorno’s aesthetic theory and the promise of happiness in the post-WWII art, and melancholia and ethics in the 18th-century European literature. I began tutoring in 2011, during my third year at university, due to the encouragement and requests I received from relatives and family friends. In 2012, shortly after graduating, I accepted an offer to teach English Literature and World History as a secondary school teacher. Since then, I taught in various settings and have engaged with students from different cultural backgrounds and of different learning abilities. As a result of providing tailored academic support for each client and making myself fully available for their needs, I now secure long-established ties and receive positive feedback from students and families. Throughout my academic experience, I have been extremely fortunate to meet educators who cared for my learning as much my parents did. Their guidance and pastoral support have had significant effects on my motivation while growing up and even after I took tutoring as a professional career. Owing to their contribution, I value the importance of quality education and the impact it makes at any level. Therefore, I endeavour to mirror their inspiration while working with my students.

Bonjour! I am a 28-year-old native French speaker from the South of France. I have been living in London for over 4 years and have several years of experience teaching French to a variety of people, from young children to adults. After obtaining my high school diploma I became an au pair in the US and taught French to the children in my care (8, 12, and 15 years old). Seeing them enjoy the acquisition of new skills gave me great satisfaction! When I returned to France I studied Tourism and Marketing at University. After completing my Bachelor's degree, I decided to move to London (2017) and put my knowledge into practice as a tour guide, alongside tutoring. In February 2020 I volunteered to help to build a school in Uganda (Abode School Project). One of the missions was to share our teaching technique with primary school teachers as well as teaching them French and English. It was such a privilege to share my language and culture, whilst learning about Ugandan customs and traditions. This experience was very inspiring and has prompted me to teach French regularly, back in London! Today, I'm teaching French at all levels and I'm passionate about it. At the moment, I teach online, with the possibility of doing lessons in person in the future when the circumstances allow it again. I adapt my lessons to each person's individual needs and goals and I make sure all aspects of the language are covered - written and oral comprehension as well as written and oral expression. My approach is also to make the lessons as fun and enjoyable as possible as well as helping students to gain confidence. I encourage them to try and find answers themselves, even if they are not fully sure. It is important not to be too self-conscious about making mistakes... everyone does! Outside of tutoring, I love to spend time traveling, meeting new people, exploring new cultures. I am also a ballet dancer and I do a lot of yoga! I’m very flexible with my hours, I can work weekdays/on the weekend/in the evening. Au plaisir de te rencontrer, A bientôt! Anaïs

Hi! If you're looking for help learning anything to do with the English language then you've come to the right person! I have studied English for both GCSE and A-Level, alongside History and Philosophy & Ethics (both heavily language based subjects), and I also have a degree in English with First Class Honours from the University of London: Queen Mary, and a CELTA from City and Islington College which allows me to teach English as a second language. My experience working in education began at Lindamood-Bell, a private company which offers a bespoke 1-1 tutoring service in English and Maths, specialising particularly in helping students with behavioural and learning difficulties. This gave a strong foundation in working 1-1, with a focus on ensuring that my teaching style can be adaptive to the needs of the student whoever they may be. After leaving Lindamood-Bell I went on to teach English as a second language in both classrooms and 1-1, online and in person with a full range of age groups and skill levels. Although my experience is limited compared to older teachers, I have dipped my toes in all aspects of English education and am always eager to provide the best service possible to my students. For me English is not just a way to make money but also a passion. In my free time I love to read all kinds of texts as well as write, and I also enjoy learning languages with intermediate fluency in Italian. I truly believe in the enriching power of English language and literature, and always hope to impart that enthusiasm to my students. If you'd like to know more about me and possible ways that we can work together then please don't hesitate to get in touch!

Hi! I am a recent graduate of King's College London, where I received my MA in Medieval Studies. In my undergraduate, I majored in history with a minor in Latin. As a result I tutor history, English, and Latin. I have a passion for learning, and would love to help students of all ages develop their passion for learning as well. While I am able to tutor for children in primary and secondary school, my experience in my MA and undergraduate have prepared me to assist students who are specifically preparing for their GCSEs and A Levels. My experience in history ranges from Ancient history all the way to the World War II era, allowing me to tutor in multiple historical eras. History is much more than memorizing dates and figures, although these are important aspects of preparing for exams such as GCSEs. As such, I will help students find creative and personalized memorization techniques, as well as helping them develop their historical critical thinking by working with them through practice tests, previous tests and quizzes from their classes, and providing study tips that have worked for me personally. For English Language students, I will help them by walking them through essay editing, language structure and meaning, and help them develop their writing skills. In light of restrictions, I would hold all sessions online, and would be flexible to move to in-person meetings when restrictions change. In addition to my time in academia, I am also a children's minister and a nanny. I love animals, reading (my favorite book is Pride and Prejudice), and plants.
