I am a highly experienced tutor of A level (and GCSE) Physics, Chemistry and Maths with an additional specialism in GASMAT, where I have many successful students. I provide support for students preparing for their entrance exams, and for their GCSE and A level exams. I also assist students with their UCAS applications and university interviews. I have a lot of recent experience of teaching GAMSAT students, a specialism of mine. Recently I won a prize as the best new tutor at a tutorial agency, and last academic year my six A level Physics students achieved A*, A*, A*, A*, A* and A respectively. I am a top-rated GAMSAT tutor. My aim is to help my students to reach their full academic potential and get the grades they deserve. I believe in making sure that the underlying fundamental concepts are fully understood as this provides a solid foundation. There is nothing more rewarding than a student saying, "oh yes, now I get it". My tutoring style is to seek to identify the key areas where support is required and then patiently and sympathetically to help and encourage my tutees to master these areas. I have a post-graduate teaching degree and have taught in a number of Schools, Colleges and Universities. I tutor individuals and also groups in schools, sixth form Colleges and Russell group universities. I was a lecturer at Imperial College for 26 years where I was an admissions tutor, senior tutor and postgraduate tutor and became deputy director of the Graduate school. I won the Rectors award for excellence in teaching at Imperial College twice. I have recent experience of tutoring and one to one teaching and also of tutoring in four central London schools, namely the City and Islington college, the Harris academy St Johns Wood, St Saviours and St Olave' school and the Elizabeth Garrett Anderson school, Islington. In my spare time I like to swim, exercise in the gym and kayak. I also love to travel and have lived and worked in Singapore, Sydney, Dallas and on a short placement in the Punjab. I support QPR more in hope than in expectation!

I am a trained professional physicist, having studied at both undergraduate and graduate levels at two of the worlds leading universities, and currently working as a radiotherapy physicist in an NHS hospital cancer treatment centre. I have 6 years experience in tutoring in physics and mathematics one-to-one and in small groups, with students of primary school age through to university undergraduates. I also have one year of experience working as a TEFL (teaching English as a foreign language) instructor to Japanese students. As a professional physicist I am highly skilled and knowledgeable not only in physics, but also mathematics, statistics, computer programming and IT systems. I take a keen interest in all areas of science, and can confidently tutor in all of these subjects up to A-level. I have always been fascinated by science, and as a high school student was initially interested in studying medicine. Unfortunately, I found myself feeling faint at the sight of blood and guts, and doubts as to my suitability for the profession began to creep into my mind. I had an amazing physics teacher at A-level, who inspired me to instead pursue physics at university. I excelled in my undergraduate studies and then progressed on to PhD level overseas, where I undertook fundamental research in experimental nuclear physics. This involved smashing atoms together using a particle accelerator in order to understand the properties of nuclear matter, reactions such as nuclear fusion and nuclear fission, as well as to synthesise new 'superheavy' chemical elements that do not exist in nature! Funnily enough, my experience working with particle accelerators, electronics, and radiation detector technology lends itself very handily to working in the healthcare sector, both in the treatment of cancer using high energy X-rays, and in various diagnostic imaging techniques using both ionising and non-ionising radiation. So I have now come more or less full circle from my high school ambitions to work in medicine, except now I get to avoid the blood and guts! During my GCSE years, in fact I really didn't enjoy physics due to poor teaching at school, and strongly considered not taking the subject at A-level- I only did so reluctantly in the belief that it would aid my application for medicine. Without the excellent teaching that was provided by my A-level teacher, I am sure I would have followed a very different and perhaps less satisfying path. When I tell people I am a physicist, I often receive replies of 'Oh wow! You must be so smart!' Many people struggle with physics and maths in school, and are highly intimidated by the subject. What if I told you that physics, based upon the fundamental rules of nature, is in fact the easiest subject in science? It is my goal as a tutor to transform their perception of physics from an intimidating subject that must be endured throughout school and then never thought of again, to a way of thinking and a toolbox of skills that will be useful for their future in many aspects of life. In tutoring in my subject I hope that I can instill a curious interest in the fundamental aspects of nature such as my favourite teacher did for me, as well as keeping my own understanding of physical principles and teaching skills sharp for use in my science career.

I am a undergraduate student studying a BSc Hons Mathematical Physics at The Open University. I am a registered member with the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications (IMA) and The Institute of Physics. (IOP). I tutor both Maths and Physics, from KS2 up to A-Level. I have been tutoring for just over a year and have coached students through their exams. It has been great to receive such positive feedback from both students and parents. The difference I make is why I love tutoring. I am a patient, knowledgeable tutor who has worked with students ranging in ability and I tailor my tutoring style student accordingly.

I am a very hands on tutor who expects his students to also be engaged in the material. I like to cover theory for the first part of lessons, and then attempt different types of questions that address those different theoretical concepts. I have experience in teaching students Mathematics at all school levels - KS (1,2,3), GCSE (and IGCSE), A Level, IB, and Degree level, and Economics and Business Studies at GCSE (and IGCSE), A-Level, and IB. I can also assist on assignments for your school, college, or degree. I believe that practice makes perfect, not just while studying but in most aspects of one's life. This means learning concepts alone simply isn't enough to be a better student, it always needs to be supplemented with practicing different questions about every aspect of the topic. I am a patient person who is always trying my best to understand the underlying reason why someone might be finding a concept hard, and always try to take my time to find a long term solution instead of a short term fix.

I have a wealth of experience in Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, Finance and Accounting, and Musical Theory. I am able to tutor in all of these areas to a high level, having studied all of them myself to a high level (having gained the associated qualifications in each instance). As mentioned above, I am very enthusiastic about all of these subjects, whilst being very patient, with the ability to break concepts down as needed. I am able to tutor for school entrance exams also (I have personally experienced the 7+ and 11+ exams, and I am very aware of the current attainment levels required by the country’s top schools).

I am currently in the fourth year of my PhD in pure mathematics at the London School of Geometry and Number Theory (Imperial, UCL, and King's). Before that, I was an undergraduate at the University of Queensland, Australia, where I earned a Bachelor of Science with Honours Class I with an extended major in Mathematics. I also have a Diploma of Languages majoring in German, and spent a year of my undergraduate degree studying in Munich. As an undergraduate, I gained a variety of experience from both private tutoring and teaching in university environments for students ranging from high school to undergraduate level. Before I began university I did a gap year working for a prep school in Surrey, where I primarily helped students between the ages of 8 and 13 who were struggling in class and/ or being disruptive. I also helped prepare students for the 11 and 13+ exams. I believe that mathematics is an under-appreciated discipline, and I have a passion for teaching maths in an intuitive and relatable way that applies real-world examples. I have ample experience in communicating complicated ideas to students of all abilities and in guiding students to their own understanding.

Hi I’m Shaun, and I am finishing off my PhD in Aerospace Engineering at the University of Cambridge. Before my PhD I completed an MPhil in engineering and did my engineering undergraduate degree at Southampton University in which I achieved highest marks in the year. I have been tutoring for four years now and have taught maths, physics, and engineering at a variety of levels including GCSE, A-Levels, and degree-level. I really enjoy helping others to learn and prepare for their important exams. I am fluent in both English and German, and I am also dyslexic and therefore understand the difficulties some students can have and can offer help and advice to build up confidence. Approach to tutoring • Focus on the positives of my students, providing an environment where they are comfortable with making mistakes while building their confidence in the subject matter. • I prepare specific additional questions and problems for my students to ensure that they have fully understood the concept being taught, rather than just following the patterns. • Using visualizations to help students to understand abstract concepts in maths and physics. • Using real-world analogies to help students understand abstract concepts, for example when teaching algebra, I replace mathematical symbols with shapes or objects (i.e. replacing X with an apple and Y with an orange). • I enjoy passing on my own personal learning techniques if it suits an individual, for example, using mind maps as opposed to using sequential information • I try to stimulate the young person’s passion for subjects, especially when they are applying to university, as this is an important skill to have for personal statements and interviews. For example, I suggested to one of my students to experiment with electronics and electrical engineering using Arduinos (a commonly used prototype tool used across all age groups for building digital devices). The young person made a simple robot with this tool of his own accord. I find it greatly rewarding to encourage young people to follow their passion and this is something I want to continue to do in the future.

Your physics tutor will provide you with a personalised learning plan to help keep you on track to perform to the best of your ability no matter your level of study.

Physics is at the heart of scientific learning. It may be the least popular of its counterparts but it appeals to those who want to combine physics with maths and other subjects in order to take the subject onto further education. Physics GCSE is the building block upon which you develop your understanding of the later topics and concepts. If you are already thinking about taking physics beyond A-level and further, you should see this as the opportunity to create a solid foundation of knowledge.

Physics A-level has been described as a ‘facilitating subject’ by Russell Group universities, allowing you to apply to a wide range of university courses. Mastering A-Level physics can set you up to go on to do amazing things with technology, machinery, the climate, space, and more! Even if you aren’t thinking about university and are taking A-Level physics, think about getting a Physics tutor in Belfast to give you the support you need to succeed.
