I'm an experienced science and language tutor with more than 10 years of teaching. SCIENCES I'm doing a PhD in Biology at the University of Oxford and have taught both within the university and in private summer schools in Oxford on the topic. I teach both high school students who need help preparing for exams, as well as university students who want to go in-depth within a certain subject or understand course material. My methods focus on applied learning, which means I'll help you understand why it is important to learn something and what you can do with that knowledge, not just how to learn. My teaching method for A-level students focuses on problem-based learning similar to university admissions interviews. I am comfortable teaching younger students in a variety of science subjects, including students with learning difficulties. You can expect a very fun, hands-on approach to learning. LANGUAGES I have extensive experience in teaching IELTS and other language exams (CPE, TOEFL). I have taught students successfully at the last minute. My approach is very tailored to the individual, so we would focus on the most effective techniques for the student. I have studied Spanish for over 10 years and obtained the highest certificate in Spanish as Foreign Language (DELE) with distinction. I was awarded first prize in many Spanish international competitions. For four years, I did courses in Spanish geography, history and culture, and I normally use what I learned to make my classes interactive and more than a way of teaching a language. I like immersing people in the Spanish culture, with its food, dances, famous painters and explorers. Have taught Spanish as foreign language for more than ten years, in one-to-one and one-to-few sessions. I adapt my style to the students I work with - for one, it can be all about having fun while translating lyrics of famous songs and watching Spanish short films (audio, experiential learners); for another it can be about rigorously tackling grammar and crafting complex stories. Regardless of the approach, you should expect that after a year of weekly/fortnightly classes you would advance by two levels (e.g. A2 to B2). I wholeheartedly recommend trying learning a language from a non-native speaker, as the way a foreign language is learned is very different from a native tongue. If you speak foreign languages, you know what I mean. If not, just give it a go!

A current A-level Biology teacher for a Sixth-form school based in Hammersmith, I am passionate about biological sciences and I enjoy sharing my knowledge and experiences. I have graduated with a Masters by research in Cognitive Neuroscience at UCL, following a Bachelors in Genetics/Biology from the University of York. I have taught A-level/AS-level Biology to 32 students to date, and they have all progressed in understanding biological concepts and in improving their marks considerably. My teaching ethos involves open discussions and verbal testing, as well as exam-style questions through informal debates and whole curriculum revision. I tend to insist on working towards understanding the course materials more in depth and a more structured manner, while abiding to the marking scheme in exam questions. I consider I developed an efficient and fun teaching ethos, my strengths consisting of careful planning, well-structured and interactive lessons. I am a strong advocate of assisting teaching materials such as online activities, animated videos and schematic drawings – all of great support in the realm of Biology! I am available most weekday evenings, as well as the weekend. If you have any queries or would like to discuss further, please do get in touch and if needed, we can arrange a meeting prior to starting the lessons.

Currently working as an hourly paid lecturer of Access to Biomedical Science and Access to Health Science, as well as previous experience as a private tutor, I have the credentials to become a successful private tutor. Additionally, my academic qualifications including my degree in Biomedical Sciences, my A Levels, and GCSEs have given me intimate subject knowledge and first hand insight into the different methods of preparation for various types of tests that students come across at the different stages of the education ladder. My research project pushed me right to the edge of the biomedical field. During my time at university, I have served as a mentor to first year university students. I have also helped my peers by helping them to write and then proofreading their personal statements, as well as helping them to practice and develop their interview technique. My job as a lecturer involves preparing and delivering lessons, as well as writing and marking exams. Teaching students of various ages and levels has enabled me to adapt my teaching style to tailor it to each and every student. This is how adapt my approach to every student I teach. My other previous work experience such as working as a teaching assistant, in retail, in a care home, and as a receptionist at a GP surgery has endowed me with the necessary transferrable skills such as communication and customer service that have also served to enhance my teaching style.

Hey, I'm Luke! I'm a tutor, and a freelance editor for international scientific journals. During my biology PhD and post-doc at Cambridge the most rewarding experience I had was mentoring undergraduates, so I left academia to focus on teaching. Helping students achieve their potential in science and maths is a real pleasure. I achieved the highest grade in all A-levels, and a 1st in Biological Sciences from the University of Oxford My experience is as a private tutor (one year), and as an undergraduate tutor and mentor at the University of Cambridge (four years). I was trained for the world-famous small group supervision system at Cambridge, and gained experience in discussing complex underlying concepts with students and ensuring complete understanding. Additionally, I was selected for a mentoring scheme, training struggling undergraduates one-to-one throughout the academic year, creating tailored programmes together with the students to address their weaknesses and enable them to achieve their goals. I'm applying to Oxbridge, can you help me? Yes! As a successful state school applicant to Oxford who had very little support I would be glad to help anyone prepare and demystify the process in any way I can. I know that it can be stressful and believe the key is practice and strategy - both of which I can provide. My teaching philosophy is that every student is different, and by finding how they learn most effectively, they can progress efficiently. Active learning and engagement are key, and I'm willing to do the extra preparation to ensure this. I can also train studying and revision methods, and coach exam technique.

I am an experienced tutor with nine years of tutoring experience and just left my position working as secondary school Physics teacher to pursue full time tutoring. I have taught maths, chemistry and physics to A-level and biology up to GCSE. I am available during weekday evenings and weekends. I am a patient teacher who has worked with children of varying abilities with the objective of giving them the confidence to apply themselves to subjects which they may have found difficult in the past. I have a friendly, understanding disposition which puts the student at ease and helps to make their lessons something to look forward to rather than a chore.

I am an experienced teacher, examiner and university senior lecturer having taught Biology and related subjects for more than thirty years. My teaching has ranged from 1:1 tuition to large group teaching; and from 13+ & 16+ Common Entrance, GCSE, IB, AS/A2 to undergraduate and postgraduate levels. In 2012 I decided to take early retirement from my Lectureship in Genetics at Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge, in order to develop further my art researches. Since, I have continued to work in Cambridge teaching UK and international students both face-to-face and on-line. I am a dedicated, enthusiastic teacher who enjoys helping students of all ages develop their potential and confidence to successfully achieve their goals. Most of my recent students have been studying towards a specific goal: frequently acceptance onto an A level or University course. I ensure that I know exactly what each student wishes to achieve and try to ascertain their personal needs so that the approach I take might best suit each individual’s strengths and weaknesses, their personalities and temperaments. I feel that this is essential if students are to develop and maintain confidence in their abilities. I always try to create and maintain an encouraging and relaxed tutoring atmosphere where students can feel comfortable in making clear to me any aspects of a topic they do not understand or would like to understand better. As much as possible, I try to encourage students’ active participation during sessions. My understanding of the requirements of A level Biology has been enhanced by my work as an examiner: between 1984-1995 and again in 2012 for Cambridge International A2 Biology. I have also extensive writing experience. In my biological work I have written two genetic undergraduate textbooks as well as many scientific papers for academic journals and articles for general readership publications. Concurrent with my scientific work I have also pursued an interest in women’s achievements in the arts which has has led to my involvement in projects related to the careers of various female artists who received their training during the late19th and early 20th centuries. This work involved my curating several national touring exhibitions, writing numerous articles and two published biographies.

I have a PhD in Biology from the University of Leeds. I have always been excited by animals and nature, as well as, intrigued about how our cells and bodies work. My dream was to become a researcher in Biology and 15 years later after 3 higher education degrees (PhD, MSc, BSc) in biology and two consequent postdoc positions as a Teaching and Research Fellow, and a Research Assistant in the UK, I am doing just that. I have 10 years of research experience and 5 years of teaching within the University of Leeds (tutoring, 1 to 1 supervision, practicals, marking exams/essays, assessing performance, feedback on reports/ essays/ thesis, invigilating exams, leading revision groups and giving a lecture). Teaching students has been very rewarding and fulfilling. My PhD was awarded with no corrections, and my MSc was awarded with a 1st. I have strong experience in general biology, zoology, evolution, development, neurobiology, behaviour, molecular and cellular biology. I also have experience in biochemistry, physiology, plants, ecology, immunology and microbiology. My PhD enables me to understand complex matters in Biology, knowing the forefront of knowledge about the subject matter, researching fast and efficiently when required and have high standards I am guided by my students in regards to what they want to get out of the tutoring, their pace, understanding and past knowledge. I use the socratic method of questioning, try to enhance my student’s critical thought and help them understand complex subject matters. I give only constructive feedback. I want them to learn and enjoy the process because Biology rocks! 😊 I am a very approachable, friendly person with a lot of energy and enthusiasm. I respect each student’s different pace of learning and individual characters. I deal very well with all kinds of students even if they are shy, quiet or not very confident. I am more than happy to answer any questions you may have. Kind regards and stay safe, Dr Elpiniki Kalogeropoulou

I am a 4th year Biology student from Leeds currently in my final year. I have been passionate about my love for Science and Education since a young age and have plenty of experience tutoring online science and being a mentor to children. I achieved A* in Biology at both GCSE and A-Level (both with AQA) and my dedication to the subject has only increased as I have studied it at Uni. I achieved an A* in Geography at A-Level as well as an A in GCSE Chemistry, Physics, English Language, English Literature and Geography. I spent last year at the University of Calgary in Canada where on a year abroad where I took new classes I couldn't take in Leeds while being exposed to new methods of teaching and assessment, developing my knowledge of how students best learn. I am currently applying for PGCE courses from September 2021. I have plenty of tutoring experience. I have been tutoring with a charity called CoachBright since October delivering GCSE Physics to wonderful students. I tutor online weekly to several groups of school students across the country. I am a STEM Ambassador for my university where I run events to encourage school children into STEM courses at university, especially aimed at BAME students. I have been accepted onto a Summer Camp in Canada next year where I will mentor a group of children aged 7-15 by leading activities and helping them reach their potential. I also have experience mentoring 1st year university students in their transition to higher education leading weekly sessions with 20 students. Being a student myself still I am fully aware of how difficult grasping concepts and learning can be! Students need concepts explained to them in a short and concise manner. I then encourage questions to be asked before setting questions and activities and working through problems with them. The ability of a student to explain concepts back to me is a keystone of them understanding these concepts. They should be able to do my job by the end of the session. I determine a students type of learning (e.g. visual, auditory, written) and tailor my lessons to their form of learning (e.g. providing visual demonstrations, written explanations etc.).

As a PhD student in the Structural Biology of HIV at The Francis Crick Institute, with a Master`s degree in Biochemistry from Imperial, I can offer a unique take on many issues that commonly arise for students. I studied Natural Sciences at Pembroke College, University of Cambridge. This course started very broad and so I have studied Maths, Chemistry, Physics and Cell Biology to degree level. With ten years experience teaching, my background is diverse. I have taught extensively on a one-to-one basis with students all the way up to degree level. In addition to my private work, I have also been employed by local schools to tutor struggling GCSE students to pass their exams a year early - all of my students passed with a C grade or higher. I have recently gained experience in teaching classes of A-level students core subjects and also given talks on applying to Oxbridge. Rapid changes to national exams have caused many problems for students. Each year I ensure that I do the exams of each new course I teach and update myself on changes to each syllabus. Students vary greatly in their needs and I am very quick to judge how to adapt myself to best suit their needs. I am proactive in my approach to teaching, talking through problems in a coherent manner and always checking that the concepts have been fully understood before moving on. If a student is required to pass exams, I can help with exam technique and how to harvest the most marks. I have a lot of experience with Dyslexic/Dyspraxic students and can help equip them with the tools to overcome this difficulty. Above all, I try to make the work as interesting as possible, with real life examples and introducing students to online resources that can make a daunting task that little bit easier to break down. If it is appropriate, I can set extra work and mark it with useful feedback. I am also happy to look at school work in order to give more in-depth feedback than a school-teacher has time to do.

I am passionate about learning and sharing knowledge. I've always considered myself an academic throughout my schooling and graduated with BSc biochemistry and physiology cum laude at UNISA. I come from a private school background where balance is key to success and I have brought that into my adult life. Some of my interests include art, cooking and business. My teaching style is interactive and dynamic. I make use of technology to make my lessons fun. I have mostly taught math at primary school level, however my studies in biology and chemistry means that I am able to assist in those subjects as well.Nothing brings me greater joy than to see my students prosper.
