Initial Teacher Trainee at the London Academy with a 1st Class Honours degree in Economics and Mathematics. Over 2 years of tutoring experience in several areas but with key experience in Math from KS1-KS5 and 11+ especially with the GL and CEM exams. I also have a lot of experience from my time as a SEND Assistant in a high school from working with students with learning limitation and have been able to allow them to achieve their true potential through various methods. I believe the key thing I can always do is to make the material accessible and personable so that the student can make a connection with his work and also understand the steps he needs to take to get there using the knowledge he already has.

I have a wealth of experience in Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, Finance and Accounting, and Musical Theory. I am able to tutor in all of these areas to a high level, having studied all of them myself to a high level (having gained the associated qualifications in each instance). As mentioned above, I am very enthusiastic about all of these subjects, whilst being very patient, with the ability to break concepts down as needed. I am able to tutor for school entrance exams also (I have personally experienced the 7+ and 11+ exams, and I am very aware of the current attainment levels required by the country’s top schools).

I'm an experienced science and language tutor with more than 10 years of teaching. SCIENCES I'm doing a PhD in Biology at the University of Oxford and have taught both within the university and in private summer schools in Oxford on the topic. I teach both high school students who need help preparing for exams, as well as university students who want to go in-depth within a certain subject or understand course material. My methods focus on applied learning, which means I'll help you understand why it is important to learn something and what you can do with that knowledge, not just how to learn. My teaching method for A-level students focuses on problem-based learning similar to university admissions interviews. I am comfortable teaching younger students in a variety of science subjects, including students with learning difficulties. You can expect a very fun, hands-on approach to learning. LANGUAGES I have extensive experience in teaching IELTS and other language exams (CPE, TOEFL). I have taught students successfully at the last minute. My approach is very tailored to the individual, so we would focus on the most effective techniques for the student. I have studied Spanish for over 10 years and obtained the highest certificate in Spanish as Foreign Language (DELE) with distinction. I was awarded first prize in many Spanish international competitions. For four years, I did courses in Spanish geography, history and culture, and I normally use what I learned to make my classes interactive and more than a way of teaching a language. I like immersing people in the Spanish culture, with its food, dances, famous painters and explorers. Have taught Spanish as foreign language for more than ten years, in one-to-one and one-to-few sessions. I adapt my style to the students I work with - for one, it can be all about having fun while translating lyrics of famous songs and watching Spanish short films (audio, experiential learners); for another it can be about rigorously tackling grammar and crafting complex stories. Regardless of the approach, you should expect that after a year of weekly/fortnightly classes you would advance by two levels (e.g. A2 to B2). I wholeheartedly recommend trying learning a language from a non-native speaker, as the way a foreign language is learned is very different from a native tongue. If you speak foreign languages, you know what I mean. If not, just give it a go!

Hi there! I have a MSc in theoretical physics at Imperial College. I graduated from the University of Bath in 2015 with a first class degree in Physics, and spent a year on placement working at a Laser facility in Oxford as part of my degree. Whilst undertaking my postgraduate studies I'm residing at my family home in St Johns Wood and am willing to travel far and wide to reach a wide range of tutees. I grew up in London and attended Highgate School and UCS where I achieved 9 A/A* grades at GCSE and A-levels in Physics (A), Maths (A), and Economics (B). Whilst attending school I received some personal tuition, which was a great help and took vast amounts of pressure from my shoulders; allowing me to pursue extra-curricular activities. This was extraordinarily beneficial when it came to applying to University, and provided a solid base for me to chase my academic dream. In my leisure time I like to spend time broadening my knowledge outside of physics, taking a keen interest in philosophy and literature; utilising the Imperial’s substantial offline and online resources to accommodate my interest. In my year off between secondary education and University, I traveled to China for two months to study Kung-Fu. Before heading out to the far east, I took a beginners course in mandarin so I could communicate with the locals, to make the experience more fulfilling and enjoyable. Although Physics is one of my main interests and the topic of discussion in most scenarios of my day-to-day life, I feel it is important to find some separation and pursue other areas of interest. Before damaging both my knees, a few years ago I formed a Sunday league football team with a few old friends that I help run. I am a keen film fan, an avid follower of the comedy circuit, and somewhat of a home chef. Whilst studying in Bath I volunteered for a programme called 'Lab in a Lorry', an organisation I found through the university. They tour the country in a large mobile unit kitted-out with several experiments and interactive demonstrations to bring science and mathematics to pre-GCSE children with the aim of peaking their interest. It is a joint venture of the Institute of Physics and the Schlumberger Foundation. I was able to volunteer several times and was privileged to be able to teach a wide range of age groups, which was vital experience for me as a soft introduction to teaching. During my time teaching I ran several practical demonstrations for the kids ranging from an introduction to fibre optics and their use in modern medicine and surgery, to an insight into polarisation of electromagnetic radiation and how it alters how we see our Sun. These experiences were extremely fulfilling, and encouraged me to become a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) ambassador whilst on placement in Oxford. This involved running several outreach programmes at local (and not so local) schools, with the intention of making science fun and more relevant to young children. Myself, accompanied by several other placement students, exposed scientific thinking and novel ideas to children of ages 6 to 12. Some of these activities included: telescopic observation of the moon, an insight into the specific electromagnetic dependent appearance of galaxies, the formation of stars and other stellar activities, as well as several other aeronautic and space based demos. I began giving private tuition in 2015 and have expanded my client base tenfold since starting out. My students have seen vast improvement under my supervision, with an average grade jump of over two grade boundaries. I have taught students from GCSE level all the way up to final year university students. The structure of my lessons is as follows: I will dedicate a third to one half of the allotted time to an overview of the method or theory that is to be covered in the session. The time dependence directly related to the difficulty and complexity of the subject at hand. This subset of time will be filled by an interactive slideshow covering the topic and basic examples of applications to everyday life. After this, I will introduce a few simpler example questions, that I will run through with my student in detail before handing the reigns over to them to answer multiple exam-style questions; for which I will give hints and review the necessary material before going through the method of the marker. This is a tried and tested successful technique. Upon approach of the examination period, the tutoring sessions will change to entirely question and answer based conditioning exercises. These will be example questions taken from previous papers and my personal stash of textbooks and notes. This method of teaching has worked extremely well with me over the last 10 years, and also with my previous tutees; and I have full faith that it will do wonders for future students too.

Aerospace Engineering student at Imperial College London on a President’s Scholarship, specialising in Maths and Physics tutoring for GCSE and A-Level. I gained a passion for teaching after spending my summers working as a sailing instructor. When I saw a child in the cohort struggling, I began to spend an hour or so during the week focusing specifically on that child, and first saw for myself the benefit individual one-on-one teaching can give. Realising how much I enjoyed the satisfaction of significantly improving the ability of a few children, I used my teaching experience to start tutoring one-one-one. Having taught a very wide range of students (from a class of Ethiopian orphans to a boy from Eton College), I’ve developed an ability to engage any student and get them to learn the content. An engaged, interested student retains information taught far more effectively than a reluctant pupil, so when tutoring I make sure to build a rapport with the children I teach. Key Tutoring Experience: - GCSE physics student, resulting in her achieving an A* after being predicted a D grade (from a 3 to an 8 in the new grading system) - 10 year old for entry in the 11+ examinations, in Maths, English, and verbal reasoning, resulting in him gaining admission into the school him and his parents wanted. - 300+ hours of teaching coding and robotics. Recruited and subsequently trained by Fire Tech Camp, where I worked over the summer. This gave me experience breaking down difficult concepts to children of a wide range of ages, who all learnt differently and required me to adapt my teaching style accordingly.

Hi! I'm Ben and I am a Cambridge University masters student about to start my fourth year of physics, specialising in theoretical and mathematical modules. I have a deep passion for maths and physics, and perhaps an even greater passion for communicating my love and knowledge of the subjects, helping students to gain intuition and insight into the workings of both the abstract world of numbers and the highly mathematical world around us! Generally, I want to help you gain an intuitive understanding of the subject (as opposed to memorising how to do specific problems) as I strongly believe that this is the best way to boost your grade at any level. However, I am extremely flexible in my teaching methods depending on the student and the student's wishes. I will evaluate what I think you need help with and tailor the lessons accordingly. Although I prefer to focus on gaining a deeper and more intuitive understanding, I understand that you have a final goal: to achieve a certain grade in your exams. Luckily for you, I have taken maths and physics exams every year for the last 7 years and use the maths that I will be teaching you every day in my degree! Moreover, I have ‘been through the system' as recently as 2016 (when I took my A Levels) so I know what it takes; I achieved an A* in Maths, Further Maths and Physics. I strongly believe that, having repeatedly worked through and overcome the common stumbling blocks of school level maths and physics myself, I can help you to do the same. This year I achieved a high 2.i in my Natural Sciences BA at Cambridge University. I am excited to start next year's course when I will be studying general relativity, quantum field theory and particle physics! I also love languages, music, tennis and cycling and have kept these up throughout my degree. So whether you want to boost your grades or want that extra challenge that you do not receive at school I can help you to look at the subject in a new and intuitive way.

Looking for your perfect Further Maths tutor?

What is Further Maths?

It’s a lot less scary than it sounds.

Further Maths simply refers to the advanced study of Maths at GCSE or A-Level. It builds on your current knowledge of Maths and just takes it one step further.

Sometimes the step up from Maths to Further Maths can require a little extra help. A private maths tutor can help you to understand advanced trigonometry, calculus and algebra and bridge the gap.

If you’re looking to study Mathematics at a top University, having an A-Level in Further Maths can be highly favourable. Being good at Maths gives you the ability to solve problems, think laterally and figure out solutions.

Maths skills are also very desirable to employers. Maths can lead you into Engineering, Accounting, Economics or even Law.

More and more students are choosing to study Further Maths, recognising the brilliant skills and knowledge it can offer.

If you’re enthusiastic about Maths, a Further Maths qualification is perfect! Tutor House can set you up with an experienced Maths tutor, who’ll be able to explain complex Maths problems with ease.
