Hi, I’m Dharani! I am a junior doctor and have been a tutor for 5 years, teaching maths and science up to A-Level. In addition to my 5 years of tutoring, I have experience as school mentor, helping a group of Year 12 students with their AS Biology during lunchtimes. The Sessions: Before the session, it would be helpful if you could let me know what you would like to cover. At the start, I will give you a topic overview and then we can do some exam questions to find out which areas need more work and to develop a good exam technique. I will try to be enthusiastic and make the session enjoyable so that you will be more engaged and therefore grasp the concepts better. I'm applying to medical school - can you help me? Yes! I have been through the application process and am familiar with how intense and demanding it can be! I hope I can impart some of my knowledge and advice to reduce the stresses of your university application and hopefully enable you to go into the process feeling a little more clued up.

Hi, my name is Malcolm, and I’m a 4th-year medical student at Imperial College with a particular interest in biomedical engineering. I previously attended St. Georges College Weybridge and obtained 3A*s at A-level in Maths, Biology and Chemistry. I’ve tutored Maths and Biology at both GCSE and A-level, and I enjoy being able to share my love of the subjects with others. I am also dyslexic, which means that I have had to come up with a lot of different ways to understand and retain information during my studies. Which I hope will allow me to adapt my teaching style to whatever suits your needs. Learning subjects at school for an exam can be both daunting and dull, but hopefully, with some help, we can make the subjects more enjoyable and get you attaining the best grades possible.

Prior to going back to university to study medicine, I was a deputy of department in science and taught KS3 and KS4 science and KS5 biology. I was head of KS3 and KS4 biology as well. I taught at a school in Harrow for 3 years, and before that trained in Mill Hill and St Albans for my PGCE. I achieved top notch A -levels including A*AA with the A* in English literature, 8A* and 2A's at GCSE and a first class degree in medical sciences. I can help with secondary science, undergraduate level biology, medical personal statements, but also have enthusiasm for geography, history and English literature literature, My approach is to provide learners with the tools they need to do well. I am currently tutoring a range of subjects and can support students with their studies. I am happy to provide catch up lessons, practice exam questions, or teach topics from scratch. I have been a teacher for five years and have dedicated my time to supporting all learners in achieving their potential. I received my undergraduate degree from The University of Edinburgh and completed my PGCE in Science with Canterbury Christ Church University a few years later. My teacher training was part of the Teach First Scheme making me a 2016 Ambassador. upon its completion. I was voted the most committed by my fellow teachers at the end of our two year program and received a Distinction in my PGCE. I have taught in both state and private institutions and held positions as a classroom teacher in all as well as additional responsibilities for KS4 curriculum development and intervention programs. I have worked as an examiner for Edexcel and have training in marking GCSE Biology exam scripts.I have taught Biology and Physics extensively at GCSE as well as some Chemistry. This includes Edexcel and AQA exam boards. I also have three years experience teaching A Level Biology including Edexcel and OCR exam boards. Many of my students have gone on to excellent things including Dentistry, Veterinary Medicine and Medicine at Russel Group universities including Oxbridge. I pride myself in providing lessons for all learners whether the ambition is a career in Science or that level 4 pass at Science GCSE. As a core subject I know first hand the stress that can arise from a content heavy GCSE Science curriculum which is why I aim firstly to engage learners with things they will find interesting. For example why just teach power equations in Physics when we can lean about how this links to Bitcoin mines! The sky isn't the limit to how far we can go to make science accessible to all. I have had witnessed some of the best (and not so best) examples of teaching practices and have honed my own style to really get the most out of young people. I use a mixture of initial engagement tasks, clear explanations and modelling as well as independent practice and retrieval of new concepts. I have been told I am a very expressive teacher - lots of hand movements and big smiles! I try to bring the enthusiasm I have for Science into every lesson. Having taught throughout the pandemic I can bring this to the virtual classroom with just as much vigour. I am a passionate environmentalist and do what I can to reduce my impact on the planet. I enjoy reading, movies and running. I am currently training for my first marathon. I look forward to getting to know you and supporting you whatever your goals.

An experienced and highly qualified A level and GCSE Biology teacher with a passion for supporting students in gaining the confidence to achieve their full potential. Four years experience teaching and tutoring the AQA specification, three of which in an OFSTED outstanding Grammar school. Experienced in supporting students struggling to meet their target and those wanting to unlock the A/A*. I have supported many students in achieving grade 9s (at GCSE), A*s (at A level) and improving their exam technique in order to gain confidence in their own ability. I graduated in 2017 from the University of Leeds with a 2:1 Biology BSc with honours and from Edge Hill with a Secondary Science PGCE in 2018. Since then I have been a Biology/Science teacher but since Sept (2021) I have chosen to tutor fulltime. Evidenced success in helping guide struggling students through complicated content by drawing it out and supporting them in providing the explanation themselves. Students I have tutored previously have gone from a grade 5 to an 8 at GCSE and from an E to a C at A level. All students I have tutored have attained at least their target grade. I have an `exam technique` focussed approach to ensure together we are improving the students ability to answer any question under pressure and making a positive impact long-term.

Hi, I am Gordon. I am a Graduate of Cell and Molecular biology and gain my degree from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, I am currently a master's student studying MRes Brain Science at the University College London. I have a great affinity for Neuroscience and Biology and am also passionate to share my knowledge in Biology. The MRes program has also afforded me the opportunity to communicate ideas clearly and accurately. Members of our research group all work on very different projects and, as we specialise in our own field, it is easy to overlook the fact that our work could be difficult to understand. In our weekly meetings, I have the opportunity to improve my communication skills. These experiences led me to develop a repertoire of strategies to explain abstract and unfamiliar concepts and I believe this will be very useful in teaching as well. I understand the difficulties of studying biology and am dedicated to guiding students to achieve better in the field of Biology.

Former Cambridge University college lecturer in natural science. I have a double first, first class masters in neuroscience and doctorate in medicine from Churchill College Cambridge. I have postgraduate qualifications and have taught at a postgraduate level. I have published research in neuroscience while working at Cambridge and Manchester Universities. Nowadays I live in Bolton, with my beautiful 10 year old son who has special needs. My son is my youngest student and every week we work on a different topic and prepare a presentation that he gives to his class at school. My hobbies include 3D printing, mathematics, astrophysics and looking after my rescue dog and cat. I also write music and play the bass guitar. What primarily motivates me to work as a tutor is my love of science. Ever since I was a young child I had a fascination with the subject, as it explains how the world works. I also enjoy helping people and playing a role in getting a student into a good university, which I hope is the first step towards a rewarding professional career for them. My first experience of tutoring came when I was only 17 years old. My 15 year old sister had been estimated C and D grades in her GCSE exams. My mum wanted her to get A grades but the teachers at our school had told my mum this was beyond her academic ability. My mum was the type of lady who never took no for an answer, and undeterred, requested that I tutored her. Although I had never tutored before I rose to this difficult challenge and taught my sister in all her 10 GCSE subjects. The teachers at our school were made to eat their words when my sister walked away with 10 straight A grades. Again at A level my sister was initially not estimated A grades so my mum asked me to leave Cambridge and drive to Bolton every weekend to fix this, so I did. My sister was my first success story. She is now a practicing doctor and is a partner in a GP surgery. At Cambridge I did not just get a double first, I got the first place out of a year of 1000 students (250 medical, 50 vets and 700 natural science) in the majority of disciplines I studied. In recognition of this I was awarded the William Harvey scholarship, a prestigious award that recognises outstanding performance in students who come from a disadvantaged socioeconomic background. I also held the Churchill College scholarship for every year I studied there. In 1997 I studied for a masters degree in neuroscience. Again I came top of the entire year and the research work I did at this stage was published in the Journal of Physiology. As a result I was asked to give my first ever lecture to a large group of university academics at a conference of the Physiological Society. Speaking to a crowd of about 100 professors and doctors and delivering a speech when I was a mere student was a daunting prospect, but I controlled my nerves and the lecture was hailed as one of the best from the conference. Later that year I was approached by St Catharine's College to teach the undergraduate students physiology which is the branch of biology which deals with how tissues and organs work in animals and plants. It was quite irregular for a 20 year old student to be approached to lecture at a college, however the Director of Studies must have seen my potential. Within 2 weeks Magdalene College approached me to also work there. Word soon spread round the university that I was better at teaching than the more qualified professors and within a few months I was working 36 hours a week teaching in 16 of the 31 colleges. I extended my subjects from just physiology and began teaching anatomy, genetics, biochemistry and neuroscience. In fact it was so much fun I neglected my own studies a little bit, so I stopped 4 months before my finals and still managed to pass them with a distinction. I went on to teach at Cambridge until I was 26 and then taught at Manchester while researching the neuroscience of diabetes. Nowadays I prefer to teach at GCSE and A level on a one to one basis, because I deal with students with a more diverse range of backgrounds and academic abilities. This presents me with additional challenges that I never encountered when working at a university level.

I am a qualified teacher. I have a doctoral degree in science from the Manchester University. I have also obtained a Master’s degree, in biomedical science and a Bachelor’s degree (in Genetics ) from the University of Sheffield (UK). I have completed a postgraduate course in education and gained my qualified teacher status from Manchester University. Currently , i am a science teacher in a UK mainstream school. My career has provided me with a rich variety of teaching opportunities. i have been involved in teaching and training of undergraduate students in different science subjects including biology , chemistry and physics at both Sheffield and Manchester Universities. I have lots of experience of teaching Key Stage 3 , GCSE and Alevel pupils in both mainstream and private schools in UK. I have thought Science subjects ( physics , chemistry and biology) to Key Stage 4 and Key stage 5 students , preparing them for GCSE and A levels exams.I always make sure my students have the prior knowledge required to understand a new topic. All of the topics in science subjects are related and just get complicated as the students progress to higher level. So it is essential for students to have a solid prior knowledge for the new topics they are learning. It is also essential to apply pupils knowledge to exam questions all the time to make sure that they know how to use key terminologies and answer those important questions in the exam. The mark schemes is very specific for GCSE and Alevel exams and the students often dont know how to answet the question properly despite having the knowledge .So it is vital that they practise those questions after they gained the knowledge with an experienced teacher to secure a high grade in exams. I practice this with my KS3 students aswell so they get into habit of how to use key terms to answer questions.

I am an Oxford graduate, who read Ancient and Modern History at BA level. This niche course took an incredibly broad view of history, allowing me to study such disparate subjects as Alexander the Great and his early successors (333-302BC), and modern non-state actors in Mexico (2006-2014). As such, I have experience in engaging not only with history (as it is traditionally conceived) at a high academic level, but with classics and international politics as well. I received a high 2:1 in my finals, despite the difficulties caused by sitting the exams during the coronavirus pandemic, and attained a strong 1st (72) in my thesis, which might be considered a more representative statement on my attainment, as it was submitted prior to the crisis reaching tipping-point in the UK. At A-Level I had an unusually scientific background, taking History (A), Biology (A*) and Maths (A), whilst achieving an A in AS Physics. Outside of more formal studies, I also read an extensive amount of 20th century classic literature and philosophy, and am teaching myself Spanish. On top of this, I competed in Blues Gymnastics while at Oxford, have a black belt in karate, and travel as much as possible (with an especial focus on the middle east). As I hope all this indicates, I have a broad range of interests which inform a holistic approach to education and suggest a genuinely inquisitive and engaging nature. I look forward to encouraging my love of learning in others, as well helping them to understand the material they are studying.

Hi there! I’m Sana and I have recently finished my A-levels in English Literature, Chemistry, and Biology and I am a medical student. I have been a tutor at Kumon for 3 years now as well as tutoring online for the past year. With my extensive background working with children and adults alike as a tutor, I am able to successfully plan and prepare lessons fit to the individual themselves which is essential. The biggest thing I have learnt is that all students are different, requiring different methods of teaching. Through accumulating over hundreds of lessons worth of experience, I have honed my skills to deliver the most effective but enjoyable experience for the tutee. I understand the stressful nature of exams, and from my own experiences at GCSE and A-level, have learnt the importance of consistent and efficient exam preparation. In my lessons, I combine subject content with exam-style questions to ensure that you feel most confident coming away from my lessons. I believe that this kind of focused teaching style, which is centred around the exam board requirements, means that you are able to face your exams with confidence. This is a tried and tested approach. Ultimately, I want my lessons to be as helpful as possible for you. Therefore, while I always make the lesson content highly focused and useful, I am also keen to ensure that the lessons feel relaxed and enjoyable, as this kind of atmosphere is the most productive one for learning.

I am currently in my 3rd year of a BSc Biology degree at the University of St Andrews. Alongside modules covering all aspects of Biology, I also take Chemistry and Statistics modules to aid my studies. During A Levels I achieved an A* in Biology (97%) and an A in Chemistry. During my 3 years tutoring I have tutored Biology and Chemistry, mainly for GCSE and A Level students, and covering a range of exam boards including: AQA, CIE, Edexcel, OCR A, OCR B, and WJEC. Over my time, as a tutor, I have completed over 800 hours of lessons and have helped many students improve their grades, achieve places in their dream universities and most importantly, improve their confidence in both themselves and their studies. Being able to help a student with their confidence is what I find to be the most rewarding part of being a tutor. Below are a few reviews from previous parents and students on their experience with me as a tutor (all names have been removed for privacy reasons): "“We are so grateful for all your care and hard work with [student]. I am very grateful for your professionalism and kind manner over our time working together. We would highly recommend you to anyone, you are an excellent tutor.” - Parent “Just wanted to say a huge thank you for all your help and support with [student] Biology A level. She has had huge benefit from your 1-2-1 sessions, and you have had such a positive influence during what has been a very difficult year for so many students. You have been extremely motivational for her and succeeded where we have not!! She always was ready, prepared and looked forward to her lessons with you, and you gave her lots of confidence. I will be delighted to recommend to you anyone looking for a biology or Chemistry tutor.” - Parent “I really enjoyed our lessons so thank you for making Biology easier for me :)” - Student My lessons are completely personalised to the needs of my student. Before each lesson we will decide on a topic for the next lesson. During the lesson, I find the most effective use of time is to spend the first half revising the theory and reviewing any weak points in the topic, and using the remainder of the lesson to do past paper questions. However, if you feel you would benefit from a specific lesson structure or more/less review time, I am completely flexible as I want you to walk away feeling satisfied by the lesson. I look forward to starting lessons together! :)

Hello! I am an LLB Law graduate of the University of Exeter. At sixth form, I studied the International Baccalaureate with biology, chemistry and psychology at higher level. I have had over a year of tutoring (informal and formal combined). I became a tutor because I understand the importance of learning to understand rather than learning to remember. I only take on topics that I completely understand so that I can effectively teach these topics to a student. I mainly tutor science subjects especially biology and chemistry. I tutor all three sciences at GCSE level. I also tutor biology and psychology at IB and also A-level. As a law graduate, I can also tutor A-level law. In addition to this, I also have experience with academic mentoring and guidance of students applying to university especially Medicine. I can help with personal statements, university choices, UCAS guidance and even course choices. I recognise that all students are different which means that they have unique requirements. I usually spend most of my first lesson creating what I call a 'student profile'. This includes ascertaining information about the student's course, subjects, topics, learning style and other things that are relevant. This allows me to create a long-term plan for regular lessons and individual lesson plans tailored to the student. I use a range of teaching styles including presentations, quizzes and place an emphasis on interactive learning. As well as tutoring, I am aspiring for a career as a legal professional. My hobbies include nature photography, fashion illustration and perfume making.
