Hello! I am a current University of Oxford Material Sciences PhD student and have recently graduated from the University of Warwick with First Class Honours in Chemistry. I have helped numerous students go from E to A* at both IGCSE and A Level as a result of one-to-one tutoring. I specialise in Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics, having over 500 hours of teaching experience in these areas. I am also currently a teaching assistant for the Materials Department at the University of Oxford and aid current professors with tutorials and practicals, teaching Oxford undergraduates. On top of this I also have a large bank of notes from GCSE to degree level with plenty of learning resources, questions, model answers, and mark schemes. When tutoring my students, I first try to prioritise their understanding of concepts from scratch, asking them probing questions to ensure their understanding is water-tight. Next, we go through examples and questions together to build confidence. Then I ask students to do questions under exam-conditions without my help, whilst stating their own thinking process aloud, so I can later help refine the way they approach problems and spot common mistakes in their understanding/method. Lastly, I encourage my students to practice further exam questions independently, in order to ensure their exam technique is consistent with mark schemes and model answers. Some are visual learners with others are listening and writing learners. Learning resources provided by me will be dependent on the student's learning technique rather than forced learning. It tends to work because students are more likely to understand the concept easily even when it’s complex. Attempting exam questions is the best learning technique but ONLY after the student understands the topic completely. Student's progress will also be tracked and there will be an End of Topic Test. A topic list will be provided so the student's progress could be tracked. This will allow the student to target certain topics and enables efficient revision and also helps to find any gaps in your knowledge.
