My name is Samuel and I graduated from Cambridge University in 2007 with a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Electrical and Electronic engineering. In addition to this, I hold a Professional Tutoring Certificate (Distinction awarded) and I am a fully qualified teacher too. I have a passion for teaching/tutoring Mathematics and Sciences (mostly Physics, Chemistry and Biology) to GCSE and A-level students. My teaching journey started in 2002 when I took a year out working as an assistant/support teacher actively involved in mentoring, lesson planning and marking. After graduating from Cambridge, I went on to seek professional employment as a graduate engineer but never left my passion for teaching. Methodology:
Everyone learns best at a different pace so I will tailor our one-to-one tutoring sessions specifically for you. In our first discussion I like to find out about your ability, what areas and skills you would like to work on, and what time frame and goals you have in mind. Or if I you prefer, I can test you on a number of topics to understand which areas you need extra support with.
From this I can begin to come up with a comprehensive plan for my first few lessons, where I will explain the topics by covering some examples before letting you to try on a range of questions with increasing difficulty. This would then be followed by tackling an exam question on the topic when you feel more confident. I will also include review sessions in each tutorial, where I will ask a few questions based on previous topics we covered. After all, Maths isn’t about memory, it’s practice, practice, practice!
My personal style of teaching is focused on engaging students through discussion and questions throughout the session to help students become more inquisitive and engaged with their studies. My priority is to make you feel comfortable asking anything no matter how simple it might be just to ensure complete understanding of what is being taught or reviewed.
